THE BIG SHOOT OUT AT OLD BRIDGE TOWN
WRITTEN BY:  Lloyd Moore

El Terror, a wicked little old school Corolla powered by a turbo charged 1.8 3tc started off the day in grand fashion for team Toyota as it blasted it's way through the 1/4 mile stopping the clock at a whopping 8.40 as it concludes the first qualifying round of bracket class.

Next up was the hard hitting asphalt pounding pistons & rotary from the modified class. We at DV1 think this is the hardest battle for team Toyota since all the sluggers in this round are so evenly matched. This round is so tight not even a pubic hair could fit through the margins, in other word: THERE IS NO ROOM FOR ERROR! In order to get the elusive "W" we have to try and secure any type of advantages & or luck we can in this round. Cesar Febus & his '86 300zx took a strangle hold on the class as he burned up the strip with a breath taking 7.707@ 174.41 mph for a first run. Not to be out gunned by Caesar's zx, Carlos Gonzales & his Mazda lit up the tree with a 7.837@ 166.85 mph. Jimmy O'Connor & his 93 Supra took the 3rd spot with a 7.935@167.12, Alex Deiguez and his 82 3sgte turbo Corolla took the fourth with a 8.142@ 160.29. The number five spot was controlled by Paul Efantis and his 97 MSP Motorsport Supra after laying down a 8.937@ 164.19 mph. Juan Lopez 93 Rx7 cut in-between the Toyotas to hold the sixth spot with a 9.358@ 129.57 mph, while the seventh & eight spot was held respectively by Vinny Ten and his 95 supra's 18.236@ 163.16, & Luis Corujo's 85 Corolla at a dismal 24.799@ 28.01. both cars had problems at the line.

In round two the line up from one through fourth stayed the same. At the fifth spot however Vinny Ten laid down 8.780 @ 119.67 mph, to bump down Paul Efantis down to the sixth spot, and Juan Lopez to the seventh. Luis didn't move up , but he better his run with a 12.500 @ 86.17 mph. Still having problems. Thetas how every thing stayed until round three of qualifying on sunday morning.  In round three Paul Efantis tried to step up and better positioned him self to no avail when he ran a 8.780 @ 164.61 mph and found himself still stuck at the number six spot. Luis Corujo also strengthen his position with a solid 9.275 @ 142.04 mph.

Now that all the qualifying kiddy stuff was out of the way, it was time to get down to the real nitty gritty and separate the men from the boys . In the first round of elimination's the #1 qualifier was Ceaser and his 7 sec 86 300 zx lined up with Luis Corujo in his 85 ae86 corolla. Although luis made an effort with a .533 reaction time to stop the clock at  9.931@143.89 mph, it was still no match for Cesar's .498 R/T and the 7.838@150.83 MPH to take the very easy win in only his second run of the event.
Carlos Gonzales didn't run a second 7 sec pass but I reckon the 8.397@168.91 was more than enough to take out Juan Lope's 93 RX7 9.122 @144.95 mph to secure a second round show down. Next up was Jimmy the energy O' Connor of the poisonous VENOM clan and Mr. low key paul Efantis from MSP motor sport. This one was a real tuff one to call because both cars was runny well in the qualifying rounds and both cars were YOTAS, so I couldn't root for one and not the other. It was a little tight for Paul as well because he lost this one at the light when he tripped the light too soon giving Jimmy the win with a 8.414@163.59mph. Tranny problem ousted Vinny Ten, and gave Alex Deiguez and his 82 corolla the win. Although Alex took the first round win he couldn't correct his problem in time to represent toyota in the second round against Cesar's 300zx. Jimmy easily won his bout against Carlos and his Mazda after he red lit then ended up crossing the centerline as well. There wasn't any accident due to the fact he was ahead of O'Connor who already shut and coasted to 13.549@63.93mph final round show down with Cesar and his smoking 300Z. In the final round both cars came out flexing their biceps by doing a big bad barnyard burnout.

As the smoke cleared both car settle down to business as they slowly rolled to the tree and started staging. As the light dropped the 'Z' was the first out the hole with a 0.542 compared to the Supe 0.615 reaction time. All the YOTA fans knew it was a done deal because there was no way in heaven or hell the Supra could run it down, but all of a sudden the 'Z' started slowing down given us hope as we witnessed the Supe whipped by the 'Z' stopping the clock at 8.553 sec with a trap speed of 136.70mph to the 'Z' 10.134 @ 105.35mph. I guess the Z got snake bitten hehehehe!!.
